Isle of Wight woman Lin Spearpoint – then 38 – dug up the most complete skeleton of the Polacanthus Foxii dinosaur ever found, near Brighstone on 6th April 1994. The name Polacanthus derives from the Ancient Greek poly ‘many’ and akantha ‘thorn’. The dinosaur was an armoured, spiked, plant-eating herbivore. that roamed around England over 125million years ago. It was around 16ft long and weighed up to 2 tonnes. Mrs Spearpoint’s discovery was only the 3rd ever found of the polacanthus. The other 2 had been placed in the Natural History Museum in London. Before making her massive find, Lin had only been collecting fossils for less than 12 months. Lin showed the bones she had found to local fossil expert Martin Simpson, who realised their major significance and began a full-scale excavation.
“This will rewrite the dinosaur books. All the previous restorations of this animal are based on incomplete material. It is the missing link. It is the dinosaur find-of-the-year.”
Lin Spearpoint added:
“I just stumbled across the bones. It was my first find. I did not know what the bones were, but as soon as it had been identified, there was tremendous interest.”
The first ever Polacanthus Foxii had been discovered on the southwest coast of the Isle of Wight by the Reverend William Fox, a friend of Alfred Lord Tennyson, in 1865. Rev Fox’s former home, at Rectory Lane in Brighstone, recently went on the market for £1.4million.

Interesting find, and also very interesting to realise that the Island, which of course then was not an Island, but this location was far different in climate then, BUT of course with no humans about to blame for the massive in our climate over the years, such is kept as quiet as possible to keep the ‘blame’ of mankind, going.
For IF people had been about when Dinosaurs were here, then by now, some lefty professor would no doubt, have blamed mankind for their disappearance.
Climate change is always, and will always happen, but don’t be fooled into thinking it is our doing, that is just an excuse to tax us more, to force cars off the road, and allow the wealthy to drive EV’s on quiet roads, whilst we wobble about on EV scooters.
What a load of crap. Climate change is real and you need to wise up.
I’m afraid what you’re saying is rather ridiculous. You’ve not been reading scientific evidence about *current-day* climate change, which clearly arises from humanity’s heedless use of chemical products.
I bet there are loads of dinosaurs in County Hall!
In fact on the Island generally with the amount of people retiring here. Should be renamed as the ‘living’ Dinosaur isle
