A nighttime search has been launched in Ryde tonight (Monday) as a result of concerns for an individual – or individuals – being raised with HM Coastguard.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor are currently on scene at Quay Road, conducting a shoreline search between the Pier and the Harbour.
Officers have been deployed across the sands in a bid to locate anything in the water.
Meanwhile, Ryde Inshore Rescue has launched its smaller lifeboat and is sweeping up and down the coast at the water’s edge – on a flooding tide.
The lifeboat’s flashing blue light and search light are illuminating the sands, but so far nothing has been located.
The incident began shortly before 21:50.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that nothing has been located after concerns were raised for a person near the water at Ryde Pier who the first informant hadn’t seen move for some time.
