HM Coastguard is assisting an individual cut off by the tide on a remote stretch of coast below Undercliff Drive between Niton and St Lawrence this lunchtime (Thursday).
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Ventnor and Bembridge have been mobilised to the scene alongside Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent.
The search and rescue teams were alerted to the elderly man’s situation in the area of Binnel Bay at around 11:40.
Bembridge RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat has also been tasked to the incident and is currently making speed south from Bembridge.
UPDATE @ 13:20 – Coastguard Rescue 175 has now departed the area and is returning to base having winched the casualty to safety.
Bembridge Lifeboat has made an about-turn and is also returning to the station.
The incident has been brought to a close and the individual is now making their own way home.
UPDATE @ 15:50 – A spokesperson for Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team confirmed the casualty was airlifted from the shoreline up to waiting Coastguard Rescue Officers where the male was checked over and given safety advice.
