CLASSROOM FIRE EXTINGUISHED ON NEWPORT OUTSKIRTS

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service extinguished a fire in a disused classroom on the site of Carisbrooke College last night (Friday).

2 appliances were mobilised to Mountbatten Drive on the outskirts of Newport at around 19:30 following reports of a fire within a ground floor classroom.

Thankfully, the fire was contained to the single room by 2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They used a hose reel to dowse the flames.

It was only last month that firefighters tackled a fire at the former Trinity Middle School site – just a few hundred yards down the road from Carisbrooke College.

Unfortunately, this does not sound like a coincidence. Perhaps it was the laissez faire attitude of the owners of the Trinity Middle School site, giving the police the opportunity not to have to investigate (who advised who on such an irresponsible action will probably never be known), that has allowed an arsonist, or group of arsonists, to believe they can act with impunity.

Bet their insurance premium will rise. Have to have more mufty days to cover it. As it is the School is making children start earlier, which will mean more traveling in darkness in the Winter months, so as the Staff can have time after school to ‘discuss things’ as the children are then sent home earlier.
