Everyone loves a big casino night, especially when the proceeds go to a great cause. On 1 December, the Men Only Isle of Wight charity was to be the big beneficiary of a night of casino gaming at the members club in Ryde, the Town Club. As a special promotion, the first 50 ticket-buyers could get them for £15 to attend the fun-money event, with later tickets going for £20 each. Unfortunately, however, the event isn’t going to take place any more.
Big night of casino gaming off the books
According to the charity’s website as well as the Eventbrite page, unfortunately, the event has had to be cancelled. Those who purchased tickets through Eventbrite can attempt to get their money back on the site. Simply log in, go to the tickets page, and then select request a refund. As the Charity Casino Night was cancelled, Eventbrite requires organisers to give a refund as long as the request is made within 45 days of the cancellation. Originally, the casino night was billed as one for both seasoned gamblers and anyone seeking a night of entertainment. Making for a classy atmosphere, guests were encouraged to wear their best suit or dress. With the £15 or £20 ticket, players would get a stack of fun chips, which could then be played at blackjack and roulette tables. At the end of the night, winners could get their hands on some great prizes. Raising money for charity is always a worthy pursuit but, of course, it’s the night’s entertainment that ticket-buyers were excited for – especially as they were essentially free to play. Whether it’s in-person or online, as soon as they become free casino games, gamers want to test their luck or skill. Making calls of probability at free blackjack tables can test your skill, while spinning the free roulette table is invariably down to chance.
Casino charity nights are still the ‘in thing’ on the Isle
Even with the Charity Casino Night for Men Only IOW off the books, there’ll more than likely be another just around the corner. The Isle of Wight has close ties to the gambling industry, particularly the online gambling industry, which has perhaps influenced many local charities and events-runners to stage their own casino nights. To help set things up, local businesses like Age of Diamonds Fun Casino are at the ready. As recently as 6 September this year, another local charity casino night caught reports. Taking place in Shanklin Old Village, the casino and karaoke event raised £2,000 towards a pupilometer for St Mary’s Hospital. The specialist piece of equipment is said to cost around £5,000, offering early warnings about blood flow to a patient’s brain, so the event went a good way towards the goal. Alongside the casino night, over at King Harry’s Bar, other fundraising games – like an auction and raffle – were held, giving away prizes donated by local charities. It’s a shame that the Charity Casino Night for Men Only had to be cancelled. Still, those looking to support the charity could opt not to refund their tickets or can go to the charity’s Support page and become a monthly supporter for £5, £10, or £20 per month, or offer a one-time donation.
