UPDATED: Police are searching for a masked man who last night (Wednesday) stole cash from Shanklin’s Co-Operative Welcome store after assaulting one member of staff and threatening another with a metal bar.
As reported by Island Echo earlier this morning, the masked individual entered the shop on Arthur’s Hill at the junction with St Martin’s Avenue and assaulted a male member of staff, who is said to have received a broken nose.
Hampshire Constabulary have now confirmed the incident took place at just before 22:30 and that cash was taken from the store after a second member of staff was forced to hand over money from the tills. The suspect made off towards the Cliff Path area.
This latest robbery comes just 2 weeks after the Welcome store in Avenue Road, Sandown was robbed. Police are looking into whether the two incidents are linked.
The wanted man is described by Police as white and is said to have been wearing a balaclava, gloves, a dark jacket, dark trousers and white trainers.
UPDATE SATURDAY: Police have today released CCTV footage stills of the man wanted for Wednesday’s robbery, who remains at large this weekend.
