Following the latest government recommendations, English Heritage has taken the decision to close all of their staffed historic sites – including Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House and Yarmouth Castle – from the end of today (Wednesday) until Friday 1st May.
With COVID-19 spreading throughout the country, businesses and event organisers are having to re-think their plans for 2020. English Heritage say that some sites may be re-opened earlier than 1st May but that events during this period have also been cancelled.
Free-to-enter sites will remain open to visitors including Appuldurcombe House and St Catherine’s Oratory. These sites have large open spaces in which visitors can maintain social distancing.
Kate Mavor, Chief Executive of English Heritage, has said:
“Our first priority is the health and wellbeing of all our members, visitors, volunteers and staff, and we hope you can understand why we’ve taken this unprecedented step.
“We’ll automatically refund you for tickets you’ve bought for any events that need to be cancelled.
“We look forward to welcoming you at our sites again soon, and we’ll let you know about our plans for reopening as soon as we’re able. Until then, we hope that you and those close to you keep healthy and safe”.
