The driver of a car that has crashed and come to rest on its side on Ashey Downs is being checked over by paramedics tonight (Wednesday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews are on scene on a notorious sharp bend between East Ashey Lane and the turning for Brading Downs Road, where a car of unknown make and model has been involved in a single vehicle incident.
It was initially feared that the occupants were trapped inside the vehicle, resulting in 2 fire appliances being mobilised from Ryde and Sandown, but it has emerged that those inside have been able to free themselves from the wreckage.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 paramedics crews and an operational commander in attendance but no one is expected to be conveyed to hospital.
The crash occurred at around 22:50 – just hours after a 2-vehicle smash just half a mile away at Knighton.
The road has been closed in both directions by Police whilst private recovery is arranged.

It isn’t a notoriously sharp bend ….. its a bend !
Any driver should have no trouble if they are driving safely according to the road and weather conditions.
Yes. Its only notorious if you’re going too fast.
Or under the influence
Exactly !!! well said W Rodgers, totally agree with you
THE ISLAND IS FULL OF SPEEDERS
The islands full of doddery old gits that can barely drive.
Get the full facts before you make stupid comments.
You are so right, which is why i have just been rammed in the back by a twenty year old
driver who was on her phone. Fortunately also seen by the police. So don’t be so pathetic.
You have the most appropriate name on the internet, has it ever occurred to the barely functioning odd brain cells rolling round in the black vacuum of your skull that you are getting older by the second
twat what an idiotic thing to say… are you old enough to be on here child?
Your monicker is clearly apposite, SIASD
You may believe that, but Police statistics do not support your conclusion!
Just like Government Statistics, they never add up.
Drive past McDonalds in Ryde and you will then understand
“ROAD SAFETY DOES NOT EXIST ON THE ISLAND”
An Accident waiting too happen!
McDonalds in Ryde should be SHUT DOWN it is an HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARD
No traffic control, traffic backs up to Bullen Road with IDIOTS waiting to order
Unhealthy food!, causing dangerous traffic delays.
Why is so many accidents along these roads ?- has to do with speed. Bends, junctions, tree’s etc seem to appear from nowhere these days!. At this rate in last month statistically we could have a fatality very soon – PLEASE SLOW DOWN……
God you are boring
So many on the island who are always in a rush! Speed limits are applied for a reason. The many speeders need to start taking notice of the LIMITS or fatalities will occur.
Oh, and don’t ride the car Infront’s bumper, that’s tailgating and also an offence for those who don’t know. Really pi**es me off !!
I think it’s terrible.
Another medical episode i expect…
The Jab strikes again
I wish you’d have a medical episode, wetty.
A lot of people blame speeders but the police don’t catch an awful lot considering the volume of traffic nowadays. A lot of accidents could be due to lack of concentration for a split second that’s all it takes
When was the last time you saw a speed camera van at night?
That’s a nasty junction, especially if you are turning right from Brading downs towards Ryde. However, as seems to be the norm these days on the Island, it’s highly likely the cause was probably distracted, drink or drug driving?
Nothing wrong with these roads (Downs, Middle Road, Military Road etc). Just no speed deterrents anywhere on the Island. So people speed.
Very true.
There all caused by medical episode….so I’m told on here anyway…
