A car has rolled onto its side on Brading High Street this afternoon (Friday).
The vehicle – a Smart ForTwo – has come to rest up against the traffic light control box outside The Wheatsheaf pub, near the pedestrian crossing at The Bull Ring.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police are all on scene.
Firefighters from Ryde and Newport have stabilised the Smart car to prevent it from rolling back onto its wheels.
The driver – who Island Echo understands has been involved in at least 2 other crashes in recent months – is being tended to by paramedics.
The road has been closed in both directions by Police – meaning motorists are having to divert via Bembridge and St Helens.
Parents collecting children from Brading Primary School are struggling to access the area, but the school are aware of the situation.
UPDATE @ 16:15 – Brading High Street has now re-opened.
It has been confirmed that the female driver has escaped injury.

Isnt it a 20mph speed limit? Im suprised a car could end up like that.
It is a smart car
Yes, but not so smart a driver me thinks.
Yet it’s supposedly her third accident in the last few months.Maybe, she shouldn’t be driving.
It wouldn’t, at 20mph.
People regularly speed through Brading. I am tailgated if I drive at 20mph. They all think they’re immortal.
Just proves that lowering speed limits does not prevent accidents. More enforcement would though.
The police don’t have the resources to do that, unfortunately. This mindset of speeding is truly appalling these days.
Because they don’t keep to it. I drive through at 20mph or under and am always tailgated.
Stabilised it to stop it rolling on to it’s wheels?? How are they going to move it then???
stop her getting a move on out of it.
Stabfast is used to stabilise the car while personal work around the vehicle. Then on the arrival of the tow truck its all removed and taken away.
Amazing to have achieved that in a 20mph zone, sounds like the driver has had plenty of practice regarding accidents.
Needs to be banned.
More bloody idiots will be along soon…
Can’t you find something original to say ?
What’s the point???..more idiots will be along soon….there always are…
Swerved to miss the rainbow unicorn and skidded on bird crap and stopped off for a swiftie …,
Probably blew over in a slight breeze as they’re so light those Smart cars. ‘Noddy’ will be upset his misses has trashed the car.
2 other recent accidents when they kill someone will they then take away their licence….
I see dreadful driving on the island everyday….
Perhaps the new Chief Constable could find some money to buy the front line officers some safety clothing
well know driver.whats her storyline then??
If the driver has been involved in other accidents similar to this in the last 2 months, then I think it time they hang up their driving gloves so to speak.
Thank goodness nobody was hurt.
Agreed. Her licence should be taken away – if she then drives then a prison sentence. The only way for people to see they cannot get away with this.
Check out the lovely new tyres. Well I never.
Why is this person still driving if it’s there 3rd accident I cannot understand the law if there is such thing why oh why keep this bloody idiot drive on our lovely island it’s bloody discusting
At least 3 incidents in a month. Time to cancel her licence, rather than a 4th fatal one.
Another one on its side? Don’t you need to be doing more than 20 pmh to droll a car like that?
More bad driving on the IW
If vehicles did not do illegal right turns into West Street from the High Street
Brading would be a much safer place for everyone.
NO one cares about the sign, stick a Camera above or install CCTV
that will put an end to persons breaking rules.
It is Not illigal to right turn into West Street, why would it be? However It is illigal to right turn into The Mall as the sign indicates.
Sorry misread, of course there are no right turn signs for West Street.
You can’t park there mate.
I really don’t understand how someone can get their car in that position at 20mph.
“ involved in at least 2 other crashes in recent months”
Clearly can’t drive then.
once is unfortunate, twice is careless, three times is incompetent. Take her licence.
Maybe time 2 hand in license!!!
Or go to opticians !!!!!!
Why has she not been disqualified before
need to go to spec savers or don’t drive
Two previous crashes recently, so why is she still driving ?
Why?
Because as we see on here daily, the naive, weak, and foolish, always give the benefit of doubt to every accident, which is fine, provided it is balanced out with the even greater chance that someone who has had several such accidents recently is less likely to be an innocent victim of a car malfunction, or a medical episode or avoiding a small child or the widely seen ‘little old lady’.
Such a shame reckless, selfish drivers rarely get seriously injured but those out walking, cycling or in their vehicles often do by such people. God alone knows how many animals end up broken, dying slowly in hedgerows due to manic speed.
Two other accidents? How can she afford the insurance premiums??! (or is it another uninsured IOW driver…)
Excuse me but you can’t park there like that mate
