A car has left the carriageway and careered into a hedge, narrowly avoiding hitting a house, in Sandford on the outskirts of Godshill this afternoon (Wednesday).
The incident has occurred on the A3020 – the main Godshill to Shanklin road – near to the junction with Redhill Lane.
It appears a Mazda 2 has failed to negotiate a left-hand bend and has instead continued straight on into a rear garden. Debris is visible prior to the bend also.
Emergency services have been called to the scene.
UPDATE @ 15:15 – Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that no one has been injured in the single car collision.

I’m not ageist Adele, I just spend most my days driving around the island and constantly observe old people poodling along with mostly terror on the faces looking like they don’t have a clue what there doing! God forbid a child runs out in front of most of them! Would take them a week to react! They should hang there keys, free up the rds for people that can actually drive at the speed limit, and get the bus!!

Yeah I am quite a good driver compared to some off the coffin dodgers I see daily driving around at 10 mph!! If you can’t safely and confidently drive at the speed limit the you shouldn’t be on the rd!! And yes I no before some loser says it the limit is just that a limit, we need to speed this island up!!
Well looks like I was right in what I said, your standard of driving would be very low and before you say it, yes I have in my career dealt with day in and day out and had to deal with the aftermath of really bad driving including fatalities.
Speed signs are set for a reason and not as a target to see how fast you can go hope this has enlightened you but I doubt it from your comment re speed the island up.
Just glad no one was coming in the opposite direction at that moment. These single vehicle ‘off roads’ can’t all be medical incidents or even more unlikely mechanical failures. Much more likely to be ‘something’ demanding attention in the car. As for this particular one, hopefully someone can establish a cause.
More bad driving on the IW
Could have been caused by taking avoiding action – around the time this was likely to have happened I was in the Old Smithy car park in Godshill when a car came in with no respect for speed, other cars or pedestrians.
There are idiots out there who have genuine single car accidents and there are idiots out there who cause ‘single’ car accidents but get away with it unless there is dash cam footage of them.
Probably take the lump of lead out from their right shoe ,,,would probably slow the idiots down a bit

This is a really basic bend which would suggest that the driver was incompetent or had a medical issue.

Why does everyone blame speed ? The Isle of Wight is perfectly navigable at the suggested road limits if you actually take notice of the road signs, know the size and footprint of your vehicle and look in your mirrors once in a while.
Bloody sick of people always complaining about ‘speed’ as I can guarantee on my daily commute its extremely rare to get anywhere near a speed limit due to some wallnut insisting of driving considerably (we shall call it) cautious.
Driver being distracted is far more a problem than speed.
There are a lot of drivers out there that SPEED.. they are always in such a rush to get nowhere.. too many are looking at the sights, not the road, too many do not know their vehicles size or footprint.. also too many that don’t actually know how to drive. Unknown how they obtained a license…

Isn’t it about time that drivers involved in single vehicle accidents are banned from driving. They obviously drive with no consideration for other road users, and will end up killing someone. Stop them before this happens.
