Police and paramedics are attending a road traffic collision involving 2 cars on Culver Down between Bembridge and Sandown this morning (Thursday).
The crash – involving a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and a Chevrolet Captiva Ltz – has occurred on the bend at Bembridge Fort, with the vehicles making contact on a narrow section of road.
1 vehicle has been spun almost 180 degrees and has left the carriageway backwards as a result of the impact, but has been prevented from rolling down the hill by undergrowth.
Emergency services were called to the scene at just before 07:30.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is checking over those involved but it’s understood no serious injuries have been sustained.
Access to Culver Down is currently blocked at the Fort, but the road is expected to reopen shortly.

People drive to fast up round that tight bend been pushed to the edge on many occasions hope everyone is ok
Idiots driving too fast.
Ps love the Island slang. Flung. Keep it up
Flung is the past tense of fling. Been in common use for probably centuries. So not Island slang. Do keep up.
Spot on Plato. Flung is a simple past tense and past participle of fling. Never was,is and will be island slang.
Why repeat what’s already been said?
Magnificent contribution . What brilliant words of wisdom. Any significant comment on this accident. Have a nice day.
No Island slang is gert flunging. Flung is fine
Surely they could see each other coming!!!
How nice for them to have two ambulances turn up straight away and not have to wait FIVE HOURS for one as we did. I guess you have to be an idiot to get such good service.
I don’t think this deserves 51 thumbs up when none of you know the cause if the accident or facts
More idiots will be along soon….
Such as yourself
Total stupidity. No excuse at all to crash on that road to nowhere
That was my daughter involved in that accident, she was returning from her place of work, going home to her husband and five children, she’s not an idiot, but a caring and loving mother.
You sound like somebody going to court with a usual sob story. Being a caring loving mother has got nothing to do with your driving. It was probably she was tired having five kids.
what’s having a husband and 5 children got to do with her driving like a wally?
So what ? Still a dangerous driver idiot !
Did you teach her, by any chance ?
Likely, with 5 kids, only works 16 hrs to then claim free rent, c.tax and hundreds a week in child tax credit, working tax credit and child allowance.
So most unfortunate to have an accident IF only working a few days per week.
That’s a heck of an assumption!! Were you there? Did you see it? What if was your daughter? Some poor girl has a mis-hap and quite possibly the other persons fault and you feel she deserves it. WTF???
Your comments say more about you and the way your mind works.
I hope all involved are ok.
Wish your daughter well. Take no notice of idiotic posters.
Andrew. I’m disgusted and fed up with the utter crass comments on here by utter waste of space ‘keyboard warriors’ who seemingly have no lire and enjoy spouting nasty stuff. Please ignore them as they are so not worthy. I hope your daughter is OK. Best wishes to you all x
7:30 am ! Chances of that ,, must of been the only 2 cars driving up there . Driver error perhaps
Of course, driving too fast! Isn’t this always the reason.
Yes bad luck and driving toooooo fast
More bad driving on the IW
Absolutely! Lucky the hedge stopped the car from rolling away backwards down the very steep hill. Now that’s another story
SLOW DOWN! island roads are not built for speed. Way too many speeders in a rush these days and that’s not including the boy racers in their noisy bloody Fiestas and Focus’s.
Don’t forget the Subaru gang too!!
Not all boy racers drive noisy bloody Ford fiesta cars and Ford Focus cars!!! Get your facts right?
Good to know nobody is seriously hurt, but no doubt speed was a contributor to this latest isle of wight crash. People need to learn they need to careful on these tight roads!
As the Citroen is clearly well into the side of the road with debris in front of it, IMHO the Chevrolet has struck it and spun. Very lucky that it perched were it landed in bushes, otherwise a long way down from there.
All these people who comment on accidents and call the drivers idiots I presume they reside in the local nut and bolt shop and that it is there form of entertainment
What is a nut and bolt shop?
180 degrees? Someone needs a new protractor!
The black car has been turned 95 degrees, at best.
When an immoveable large car meets another immoveable large car on a narrow road , something has to give. Cars are getting bigger and bigger, our roads aint. Just glad nobody was badly hurt
No way they could have seen each other, too busy looking out at the scenery, and the fact neither have a clue of the size of their vehicle.. and certainly NOT keeping to one’s own side of road !!
I say chaps you can’t park there!
Boring
