Emergency services are in attendance on the outskirts of Cowes this evening (Monday) where a crash involving a car that has come to rest on its roof has closed the main road to Porchfield.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are all on scene at Rolls Hill, Thorness – between Gurnard and Porchfield.
The incident happened on the ironically named road shortly before 18:30.
Island Echo understands minor injuries have been sustained.
Police have closed the road in both directions.
UPDATE @ 19:50 – It has been confirmed that 4 people were able to self extricate from the vehicle – a Peugeot 107 Sport XS – all suffering minor injuries only.

More idiots will be along soon…..let’s hear the usual idiots that defend these idiots….
But what are you attempting to gain from making this remedial and repetitive comment. It simply serves no purpose here.
As has been pointed out to you by many on here, you are at the top of the tree when it comes to idiots!
He’s right, 4 in a sports car……
It wasn’t a sports car it was a Peugeot 107. The sport part just means it has alloys and a swanky gear knob. (I used to work for Peugeot)
Your knowledge of car models is miniscule, you must be another village idiot like ‘Letting you know’.
That person is just speaking the truth… I would guess that you are a bad driver as well then… or maybe you are the idiot !!
Truth about what? He wasn’t there. You sad trolls really do need to find a better hobby!
Don’t read it then!! Or respond, idiot..
You’re just not grasping this at all, are you. I wonder if you’d call me an “idiot” if you were stood in front of me, rather than in the safe and anonymous place you’re currently in, hiding behind your keyboard. I think we both know the answer to that, don’t we.
You really do cut an extremely sad figure, truly.
he’s got a point though Stuart. you don’t end up in that position from driving sensibly and sticking to the speed limit. can’t see this being a medical episode although i’m no expert
You can shush the only idiot I see is you don’t be so rude you don’t know the full story so who’s the idiot now?
And here he is! The idiot that keeps making that idiotic comment
I actually agree with you! What is going on? Only idiots do this???
More bad driving on the IW
“CAR CRASHES THROUGH HEDGE AND ONTO ROOF AT ROLL HILLS NEAR THORNESS”.
From that headline I thought a driver was trying to outdo the previous driver on the IE who ploughed into the side of a house and just wanted to see if they could land ON TOP of a house instead!
Internet challenge accepted!
What the idiots can’t understand is four tyres on a car that have little contact with the road, they think the whole tyre is connected with the road…..a little bit of rubber can’t perform miricals….think about it!!!
I don’t think anyone is stupid enough to think the whole tyre is in contact with the road. That would make it a floppy rubber ski
You don’t know most of the idiots on here then, do you..
What is a “Mirical” ?
Like most trolls, he has an extremely low IQ!
Perhaps seat belts and air bags have inadvertently added to the amount accidents, with drivers feeling and being more invincible than cars of yesteryear, so they drive with impunity, knowing that in all likelyhood it will be whatever they hit which comes off worse.
Hence if, as many are, you are a selfish, arrogant, being, then you drive too fast with far less fear.
Death and serious injury, by natural selection kept numbers down, now most all survive to continue causing accidents often in which others pay the price.
Yes… but what they don’t know is hit a tree at 40mph and it’s game over… forever.
And the tree wins every time.
I said similar to this statement when seat belts were introduced, also the guard rails at sides of some corners… making things look safer, so they can drive faster… Maybe that is why they do not have many STOP signs on our roads. So people can drive faster, and crash more often…
Shame how road users that allegedly have passed a driving/riding test seem to have forgotten how to do a controlled emergency stop… seems they just freeze up and try to go with the ‘roll’….
You can’t park there mate!!
Honestly how fast do you have to be going to end up like this?Certainly more than 40.
Getting scary to drive on our roads here now what the h &*£& is going. Have drink or smoking Mary janes
Don’t tell me, it’s an old driver in an automatic car.
Achievement unlocked
That explains all the Emergency Vehicles heading up the Dual Carriageway when I was there at about 6:15. It was raining, so excessive speed and/or not paying attention, in less than ideal road condition.,I think the Island should try to have a driver of year competition… and it’s been a pretty competitive week this week. It was a tie between “Car on it’s side in a 20 limit” & “Crash into a house on a straight bit of road”… might have a new winner…
me and my friends don’t appreciate being called idiots, selfish etc, you wernt in the car with us. it was a bad accident and we are lucky to be okay. don’t make assumptions if you don’t know what happened.
then maybe you can enlighten us
wernt ???? what language is that… maybe need an English lesson or two, then might also be able to read and obey the HIGHWAY CODE…
Dangerous driving, or driving without due care and attention is what happened… have you thought about IF there was someone in the path of the vehicle… certainly would have KILLED them… hence a HIGHWAY CODE and SPEED LIMITS…
well said incredible !!. playing the victim card may have worked with her parents but we all know it was drivers fault
Medical incident seems to be the only possible excuse.
Incompetent driver…
The only thing for certain is that four people were very lucky to walk away with only minor injuries.
Four people in a car handles completely different to when there are only 1 or 2 people. As usual, probably driving too fast and lost it.
Err we go err we go……….again!!!!!!
My Grandson happened to be in the car, as yet I don’t know the details of what happened, all I know is that all of them were very lucky to survive and shaken by the experience. Please remember these IDIOTS as some of you have called them are human beings with family who loves them very much.
Perhaps ‘inexperienced’, ‘naive’, ‘unaware of conditions’, ‘too fast’, ‘under the influence’, ‘showing off’, ‘peer pressure’ or ‘driving a vehicle too powerful for their abilities’. Whatever happened (and we will not know the real reasons) 4 people were damned lucky to escape death and, as cars do not just flip over, there were reasons this happened and knowing those reasons may stop someone else making the same mistakes. It is just lucky that nothing was coming the other way. I spent 6 years as a Special Constable and attended around 50 accidents in the Derbyshire countryside and didn’t see one roll over of a single vehicle.
just because they are IDIOTS with family that love them they are still IDIOTS
Oh look, the disgusting keyboard warriors with nothing better to do with their time are on here being narrow-minded and judgemental on something they know absolutely nothing about. It makes me sick to know how vile minded you all are to not even wish them all well and be thankful they escaped with their lives. Let’s hope this never happens to any of your loved ones, but it seems it wouldn’t affect you even if it did because you obviously lack compassion and empathy for others.
I’ve witnessed first hand the carnage caused by stupidity, and sheer bloody arrogance.
I have zero time or patience for idiots, and as for having empathy….
Only for the innocent victims, not the cause.
And you were there, were you? You were there last night?
No, didn’t think so.
You have probably already moved onto the next article to troll too – because that’s all you are.
The Island Echo and the County Press will do nothing about “keyboard warriors”, it’s probably beneficial to them to allow these idiots to post on their forums. We all have a right to free speech but it gets very tiring seeing the moronic comments on here, basically they are trolls.
So what are you doing on here then idiot you don’t have to look at the comments do you ,speed that’s it
were not all Karens
Last year we were travelling on a bus through Ventnor towards Wroxall, when we came across a single vehicle crash. A pimped up blue Ford. At the scene there was a lot off mess. Police & another bus arrived & as we were being led from bus to bus, the driver was being breathalysed & questioned etc. I heard him saying he was only doing 40mph & had to swerve a fox. The only panel undamaged was the roof.& it was facing the opposite direction of travel. Clearly travelling to fast for both car & driver ability. That road is National speed limit, at a guess I’d say he was exceeding !!
Thought it was called Rolls Hill , Maybe they thought they would see if the road name could be a play on words for the accident ?
hope all got out safely anyway .
If they had a dash cam, as well as inward facing. We’d find out how it happened and who was driving at the time.
well, it not a sports car sorry a Peugeot any more
Surely the time must come for the speed limits to be reduced on the Island road as the drivers are clearly unable to drive safely under the current limits.
