Camphill Stormers won the Vectis Pétanque League by an impressive 14-point margin, clinching the title for the 3rd year in a row.
The team finished with 77 points, whilst their nearest rivals – Victorians – ended up with a total of 63 and 3rd place Bargemans Sails on 61.
The feat is made more impressive given the fact that they were only formed 3 years ago.
Team captain, Sean Newton, was full of praise for the team, saying:
“To win the league for the third successive year is a great achievement and is testament to a great team atmosphere and winning mentality. We always go out to win but ensure we have a good time. The end of season party will definitely be one to remember.”
It’s been a great season for Sean as he also won the Isle of Wight Mixed pairs with Emma Stockbridge, the 7thtime he’s claimed the title.
A total of 7 players will be part of the team will be representing the Isle of Wight in the Isle of Wight in the forthcoming inter regionals which are held at Pontins in Pakefield, Norfolk.
The Inter-Regional tournament is Pétanque England’s biggest annual competition and is the highlight of the Pétanque year for many PE members. The tournament comprises two divisions, and within each division there is a Championship (eight teams per regional squad) and a Challenge (four teams per regional squad).
Each team within a region’s squad is ranked and plays against equally ranked teams from all other regions in their division. The Isle of Wight will be competing in the first division after gaining promotion at last years event.
On the Isle of Wight’s chances Sean said:
“Playing in the first division is always a challenge as we’ll be up against some of the best players in the country; however, everyone in the squad will give it their best and I’m sure we can achieve some great results.”
