Sandown Town Council has launched their annual budget consultation and they are urging residents to have their say by completing an online survey.
The Survey, which can be accessed via the Town Council’s website, includes sections on funding towards IW Councils’ Planning Service, as well as the Town Council’s Beach Service, Sandham Grounds and Youth Initiatives, as well as taking forward projects previously prioritised by residents.
Hard copies are available in Sandown Library and at the Broadway Centre, as well as QR code links on posters in shops and businesses around the Town, and on Town Council buildings.
Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot said:
“It’s important that local residents have their say on their priorities, and how the Town Council allocates the limited resources we have, especially as
the IW Council have asked for more funding towards services they previously provided”.
Deputy Mayor Ian Fletcher added:
“Public Consultation has helped shape Town Council Budgets and Priorities, and we have delivered the replacement of St John’s and Eastern Garden Toilets, invested in Buoys in the Bay and other Beach projects, and secured grant funding for projects such as Warm Spaces and Improvements in Accessibility.”
Councillor Lightfoot concluded:
“We are also consulting on the replacement of Yaverland Toilets, which would complete the replacement programme agreed by this Council in 2021, and the imminent publication of the Bay Place Plan will also help shape the future priorities of the Town Council, working with Partner Agencies and other Bay Councils”.

Back to basics is needed. Yaverland toilets aren’t old. IF you are desperate for a wc, then so long as it is cleaned, keep it simple to make it cheap to repair
A stainless steel wide rimmed pan, no seat, hidden pipe work. No hand wash, no toilet rolls, you then have to take your own hand sanitizer and tissue, which in the Summer could be sold at the Cafe.
A urinal built into an alcove in the outside wall with a low modesty wall, would suffice for men, and being outside would attract less vandals and pervs.
Close the library, or get it totally funded by charity, as the majority don’t use it now.

No toilet paper or hand wash is taking it too far. If the cafe is shut, what are we supposed to do? Sanitiser does not actually wash your hands. We need better toilets not worse ones. CCTV should be on all toilets because they are always targets for vandals. Obviously, CCTV should be operated by the council rather than the inept Island Roads. I bet there are plenty of retired people on the island who would be happy to watch CCTV streams for a few hours a day for a few quid.
Most normal people can manage to wipe their parts without the need to have to remove pieces of excreta from nails and fingers, so all public toilets should no longer be provided with tissue or handwashing, then people would, as they do with colds keep a packet of tissue with them and, as we all did for Covid, keep some hand cleaner available.
The disabled who likely do get smothered in such, could have a small sink, and a roll of paper, as I understand they need such if arms and hands coordination etc can’t function very well.
I think getting the public to watch people in public toilets is too open to the sick, and how long before gay frolics were all over some porn site?

I’ve noticed the survey is ‘open to all’. Potentially, those contributing to the survey may not live in Sandown or even on the Island. The survey also allows multiple submissions by the same contributor. Potentially, the results received may be biased and deflect from getting the voice from those in Sandown.
