‘Just One Thing’ was the topic of discussion at last night’s business seminar delivered by respected mentor and speaker, Dale Howarth, which gave a rare glimpse into the ‘one thing’ that has profoundly influenced successful business leaders. Dale’s free, bi-annual events are always popular and attract a capacity audience from across the business community. This year was certainly no different with 100 guests eagerly arriving at Lakeside Park Hotel in Wootton yesterday evening (Tuesday). An hour of dedicated networking gave those present a chance to meet the event sponsors and make new connections before moving into the Kingfisher Suite for the main event. Dale shared his wealth of experience and insightful thoughts, dropping key snippets of information along the way to get the audience’s minds really thinking. He highlighted the formula for success and that, for most businesses, what they need to be more successful is already there. He also expressed the importance of identifying your USP.
Joining Dale on the stage were some of the Island’s most respected business people, giving an insight into their ‘one thing’ that has helped them along in the world of business and enabled them to overcome barriers and achieve greater success. A diverse range of topics were covered by the cohort of speakers, but many common themes carried through including people, building trust and seizing opportunity. Speakers on the night included: John Irvine (WightFibre); Jonathan Thornton (PC Consultants); Mark Lee (Lifeline Security); Karen Lucas (Vikoma); Ciaran O’Donnell (Own your Numbers); Alison Colley (Real Employment Law Advice) and Geoff Underwood (IFPL).
For this year’s event, a cabaret-style layout was introduced allowing the sponsors, each of whom hosted a table, to get to know the guests more. The new format of round tables and a variety of different speakers went down well with the audience. The event was sponsored by NFU Mutual, Premier Motors, Wight Fibre, PC Consultants, Lifeline Security, WRS Systems, Wightlink, Betapak, Island Tea & Coffee Co. and Eldridges Solicitors.

What a great event! Dale was able as always to gather a few speakers who shared their intriguing “one thing” and it all made perfect sense. Dale even mentioned me a few times regarding my network group. Brilliant!
Pay island employees better salaries.
Another example of corporate time wasting. A bunch of self absorbed ‘Captains of industry’ in an evening of mutual back- slapping, throwing roses at each other and blowing sunshine up each others’ ar**s. I’m with John on this one. Pay more wages.
An afternoon wasted at this event would’ve been better spent at work. Even if it was just helping the lowest paid, least skilled with their chores for the day.
