Residents in areas of the East Wight are being affected by broadband outages this evening (Friday).
Some internet service subscribers living in areas of Ryde, Seaview, Bembridge and Shanklin have experienced either partial or complete interruption to their connection.
Most reports of the issues have come from both Sky and TalkTalk customers, with other suppliers connectivity seemingly unaffected by the issues.
Sky’s service checker has acknowledged the issue for their customers, with Sky Talk users also unable to make or receive phone calls.
The company says it’s engineers and technical teams are working on restoring services, but has not issued an estimated time of restoration as of yet.
TalkTalk has not yet issued any guidance for customers.
UPDATED @ 21:00 – Further reports of internet issues have now been received from across the Isle of Wight, indicating the large scale of the problems.
Island Echo readers in Freshwater, Ventnor, Chale, Sandown, Lake and Alverstone have also experienced trouble using their connections.
UPDATED @ 21:30 – Sky has confirmed that its engineers are conducting a planned upgrade to its network across the Island this evening – with disruption expected to last until the early hours of tomorrow morning (Saturday).
Despite the widespread issues being experienced by many customers, no warning of the works was seemingly given.
It remains unclear if this upgrade is responsible for the problems being caused to users on other networks including TalkTalk and Utility Warehouse.
UPDATED @ 21:45 – Some users are now reporting that connectivity has been restored.

@ 21:30 – Sky has confirmed that its engineers are conducting a planned upgrade
If it was “planned” why didn’t they inform their customers beforehand!
And why do it at peak viewing time?
That would cause a rise in an already expensive commodity!
My poor router went through hell and back last evening! Why didn’t Sky tell us it was going to happen?
Outages have been quite prevalent for a while now. Strange that these outages happened since Wight Fibre started digging up the roads and pavements to offer their “product”.
Hardly ‘ a product’ – this is to give Full Fibre to the whole island . You should be extremely proud that we are getting the chance of this . The outages I can tell you are nothing to do with WIghtfibre
Im with wightfibre keeping it local
No problems with my connection
