26-year-old Stuart Squibb, whose pet whippet had to be put down because it had been so neglected, has been banned from owning or looking after dogs for 5 years.
It was in January 2023 that Squibb’s 11-year-old whippet, called ‘Weasel’, was rushed to the vet by the RSPCA – her 1st visit in 18 months – due to her being severely unwell.
Veterinary surgeons noticed that the canine was unable to walk due to a weight-bearing issue and that she was underweight. She was dribbling urine and vets discovered that she was also suffering from osteoarthritis and limb deformity.
Sadly, with her prognosis poor and her health deteriorating, Weasel was put to sleep that same day.
The animal charity’s attention was drawn to Squibb’s neglect when a concerned local captured a video of an emaciated Weasel in the front garden.
In light of the circumstances, the RSPCA brought a prosecution against Stuart Squibb, of Lower Furlongs in Brading. He initially pleaded not guilty to 2 counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal back in May but changed his plea to guilty during an appearance at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last month.
During August’s hearing, defence solicitor Michael McGoldrick said that the 26-year-old had tried his best by seeking help and advice on the issues that Weasel was suffering from, but that his best obviously wasn’t good enough, admitting that there was more he could’ve done to help her.
Squibb had inherited the dog from his late mother and had run into financial difficulties.
The 26-year-old has now been banned from owning, keeping and looking after animals for a period of 5 years. He has also been made subject to a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work attached.

Should be banned for life, no reason to be cruel to any animal,
…
If you cannot afford to look after the pet ,take it to a re homing centre ….
At least the animal won’t suffer !!!
ban for life, enough said.
Can we do the same to him?
He should be treated the same way. Don’t feed him or let him see any doctors.
We need to see a pic of the owner that deserves putting down , not just one of the poor dog that had to be .
He’s on facebook if you search his name, one of his posts is public so you can leave a comment…
Looking at some of his friends, similar non careing druggies.
Turn him into dog food, apt punishment I feel.
Live dog food
Why dont all of you aka the linch mob, meet up and admit your sins and faults to one and another…..your all so perfect, im suprised you have time to tap your precious keyboards
Well it seems you are not appalled by the ill treated of animals. I am.
always the same on here anonymous gobshites with nothing better to do
Hello number 1 Gob shite !!!!
So you agree that people can treat animals like s— and it’s ok . No doubt your probably the same. He should of got twenty years and never able to own a dog or any other animal. Shame the neighbours didn’t notice the poor dog .
What a pathetic human. I hope the consequences of this horrific behaviour follow him for the rest of his miserable life. As far as I’m concerned, he’s the worst sort of offender. One can only imagine the suffering he inflicted, and I would not be at all surprised if he’s been getting away with other sorts of offending for a very long time. What a thoroughly despicable person.
Just as bad as leaving a child to starve and neglecting to seek medical attention in my eyes! Both are defenseless and have no voice to speak up with. Deplorable behaviour. He deserves stringing up!!
Ban him for life, he obviously doesn’t care about the state his dog got into. He’s a disgrace letting any animal suffer in this way.
