Motorists are currently unable to proceed from the Ashey Road junction to The Mall in Brading using Brading Downs Road and Bully’s Hill.
It’s understood at least 1 crash occurred on the elevated stretch of road shortly before 07:00, with potentially a more serious second crash at around 07:30. 2 fire appliances from Ryde were mobilised towards Brading at 07:35.
Island Roads’ gritters have been redeployed to Brading Downs to complete another pass.
It is unknown when the road will re-open.
Meanwhile, there has been a crash between Godshill and Sandford involving 3 cars. This is in addition to the crashes at Ryde, Merstone and Gatcombe.
UPDATE @ 08:47 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that they have been called to a woman trapped in a vehicle on Brading Downs. The car has left the road and gone through a hedge.
The road remains closed.
UPDATE @ 10:18 – 1 female has been extricated from her Citroen C1 by fire crews, who have carried out a full roof removal.
She is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
