A child is said to have been approached by an unknown man in the Newport area this afternoon (Thursday), prompting fears for local parents.
According to the boy’s mum, the nipper was walking home from school at around 15:20 when he was suddenly approached by an individual on Caesars Road.
It’s claimed that the male, who was driving a red Volvo, approached the youngster and offered him some sweets. The offer was declined.
Although no criminal offences have so far been identified, parents are being alerted to the presence of the man who is described as being bald with a white ‘halo’ of hair. He was wearing all black, with black and gold trainers.
He was last seen travelling towards Victoria Rec.
Local schools have been made aware of the situation and so have the Police.

If the driver was close enough to the child is more than likely the happening ! Not the child getting close to the car. But regardless of all the safety the fact remains we live on an island that has way too many pedophiles lurking about and taking the opportunity to lure a young child
Think positive for onc. Well done lad in saying no and well done Mum in bringing the incident to the attention of others. Maybe such actions will cause someone to realise that their actions are being monitored.
If you read the article it clearly says the boy was approached by……
The child was not in the wrong but the individual could have been.
Well done that boy and the parents for making sure he knew what to do.
Caesar’s Road again? This is the second bad news story from the same place in a couple of weeks.
Well done to the boy being sensible and going straight home to tell his mum , and we’ll done to his parents who obviously have taught him about stranger danger . I’m glad you are safe .
Jeez – talk about if the shoe fits, i mean we are not supposed to stereotype, but come on. old guy in car offers child sweeties – might as well have paedo in neon on the car roof.
“the nipper”…. you don’t half churn out drivel….
Driving a red Volvo how do you know what colour his trainers were?
I thought the same Ed, but never the less the lad did good by refusing, It didn’t mention how old the boy was.
Did the man get out of the car to approach him or just slow up ??
Well done to the lad for saying no and telling his parents, and well done to the parents for teaching your son the right way to deal with strangers and these situations. If that particular man is reading this we are all now aware what you are potentially up to dont even think about trying it again!!!
On average of the thirty prisoners released from the Isle of Wight prison each year
aprox 10 stay on the island that is scary!!
I think this is why we have seen an increase in these sorts of incidents and that this is the root of the problem. I feel a letter to Bob Seely MP coming on!! Ron, is there somewhere I can get access to these figures showing that a third of sex offending prisoners chose to live on the island when released at the end of their sentence?
