Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has said that he will not support Boris Johnson if another vote of no confidence is tabled against the Prime Minister.
The change of tune comes after more controversies at No. 10 and more ethical questions being raised about Boris’s premiership, with Bob stating it is time for a new PM.
In a statement issued this afternoon (Wednesday), Mr Seely has declared Boris a ‘distraction’ when it comes to governing Britain.
Bob has said:
“I supported Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the recent vote of confidence, following a renewed commitment to look at the Isle of Wight council’s funding settlement. Since then, we’ve seen more controversies and more ethical questions.
“Talking with Islanders, it’s clear that that Boris – despite his past strengths – is becoming a distraction to governing Britain.
“I am very concerned that important debates and important issues – on the Island and nationally – are being drowned out by the incessant noise from Downing Street. We need to be focused on getting inflation down, supporting people through the cost of living crisis, and growing the economy. On Island issues, I need ministers in place and focused on delivering for Islanders.
“If there is another confidence vote in the Prime Minister, I will not be supporting Boris. We need a change of Prime Minister. I am sorry that it has come to this point, but it is now in our national interest that this happens soon, as I suspect it will”.

Too late Bob, you made your bed, stay in it whilst you can
Yep. Seely has been brownnosing Johnson since he started his campaign to become PM.
He’s permanently associated himself with the most dishonest and incompetent PM this country has ever seen and only a complete idiot would see this move as anything other that a cynical and way too late attempt to save his political hide.
Oh come on, Johnson is just a beginner when compared to the likes of LIAR Blair who was the architect of the crap this country faces and Gordon Brown who stole £118 Bn to prop up his crap policies then CONDEMNED 100s of CHILDREN to a life of grooming, rape and prostitution after telling the police to ignore their pleas for help.
Boris on a bad day is ten times better than beer stammer on his best. The trash in the Tory party need ditching and get the party back to being Conservative.
Oh, do behave.
Blair lied once. It was a biggie, to be sure, but it was once, and it was by omission (he didn’t mention the suspected WMD were tactical). He rightly deserves the condemnation he gets because of it, but Blair’s lying pales into insignificance compared to Bozo’s blatant and continuous lying.
As for stealing money? Bozo lied and lied to “get Brexit done” and get him in the big seat. Brexit and the sheer incompetence of his loony front bench have and will continue to cost the country £trillions.
Bozo is the worst, most dishonest and most self serving PM this country has ever had by a country mile.
Personally, I consider Gordon Brown to be the very worst PM; he condemned 1000s of children to a life of grooming and rape when he told police forces to ignore their pleas for help, saying that ‘these young girls had made their choice and it was not for the police to get involved’
If you “ditched the trash” in the Tory party there would only be about 20 MPs left. Most, including all of the front bench, are self-serving and duplicitous incompetents who will always put their political career before their country or constituents.
And Seely is no different. A few weeks ago he was giving his Prime Minister unwavering support over Partygate and saying we should move on. Sure as eggs is eggs, if nobody was resigning over Pinchergate, you can be absolutely sure Seely would be still backing Bozo.
This is all about Seely looking after number 1. Himself. As he always does.
Seely threw his lot in with Johnson from the outset and refused to distance himself from him despite Johnson proving time and time again that he isn’t fit for office.
Now he sees the writing on the wall and withdraws his support.
Is anyone on the Island stupid enough to fall for it and vote for Seely in the next election?
Of course they are.
I agree, when you put party before country and supported a liar you lost my vote.
Totally agree
Our Bob, as expected, will wait to see which way the wind is blowing before deciding which side of the fence he will jump.
Any side of the fence will do for him, just as long as Bob can keep his cosy IW seat.
Dogs. Fleas. Let’s be clear here: Mr Seely is only jumping now to save himself.
I don’t think Boris will miss him.
Bob is a tory, he broke lockdown rules just like Boris to attend a “BBQ” we all remember that and it won’t go away Bob. If you think NOT supporting an oaf as PM will help you remain the islands MP then your so deluded and not in the real world. No brown envelopes will be enough for anyone to vote for you again. A failed PM and a failed PM here in the island, just goes together with the failing council too. Just go to Bob for gods sake.
You had a chance to show your principles a while ago
Why are you not supporting your leader, who else is going to do it, let’s move on & concentrate on what bloody matters, they are determined to get him out one way or another & I fully support Boris. We need a strong leader, not someone like you Seely who has jumped aboard the band wagon.
Bob is about as much use as a Chocolate fire guard anyway about time he went
He said the same about Mrs May. Makes you laugh when he broke the ‘covid rules’ as well. Bob your a distraction, resign now and stop being a hypocrite.
So why don’t Bob resign then,do the Island a favour.
Mr Seeley should have stopped supporting Boris Johnson months ago. Johnson’s ethics have not changed but as his end is finally in sight, Tory MP’s are miraculously discovering a back bone. Too little, too l
Very predictably, our opportunist MP waited until today to plight his non allegiance to the disgraceful premiership of Johnson.
Seeley needed to establish which way the political wind was blowing before he decided so that he could ensure the continuance of his comfortable IW parliamentary seat.
There will be a bandwagon along soon Bob, I advise you to get on it.
You had your chance to get rid of Boris but voted for him. Double standards like the whole party
Bit late for that half a sausage. You’ve already cast your vote for the lame donkey, now you gotta ride along with him. Poop, poor judgement.
A rat leaving a sinking ship comes to mind. He already backed the “captain”, so he is responsible for Johnson still being at the helm. Too late Seely, you had your chance and didn’t take it.
we do not need a change of PM – We need the elected politicians to stop acting like whiny little brats who didn’t get their own way and get on with the jobs we are paying them to do.
Bob – stop making excuses, tell the rest of the tory party to focus on their jobs and not trying to wreck their own futures with this pointless whinging.
“Tell the rest of the party to focus on their jobs”? You grossly overestimate Soundbite Seely’s influence. He’s an insignificant back-bencher and inveterate toady.
He will just switch his allegiance to whoever becomes the next Tory leader and brownnose them as much as he did Bozo.
The yes man knows when the ship is sinking
He bought your vote then?
In our fake democracy, there is nothing the people can do. Bob just protecting he back for when the PM is booted out.
Too little 2 late !!!!
Been creeping far too long ….
Let’s hope we get a government and MPs that support the country and island (especially building on Greenfield sites) .
We seriously need to realise the island infrastructure cannot and will not support all this new building!!!!!
Rat’s deserting a sinking ship springs to mind !!!!!!
If you don’t support him resign !!!!!!
Just maybe Boris promised to be the messiah, and turned out just to be a very naughty boy …
BUT … how many people ‘turned a blind eye’ to the obvious, for whatever greasy reasons, and enabled this shameless, undercapable horror to gain the position in the first place, and do so much damage for so long?
You are culpable, Bob – you and all your ilk.
He is not a “distraction” he is a pathological liar with neither shame or any morals, the two words missing from his personal dictionary are Truth and Honesty.
He is a total disgrace to the position of the countries leader and should resign but his overblown ego will not allow him to do so, sadly all mp’s defending him are showing that they are no better than him and an indication of the levels of corruption in our parliament.
Oh for Gods sake!!!
These sycophantic self interested LOSERS jump the sinking ship??!
This vile Covid rule breaker leaves now after it’s clear his non bleached starfish leader is done for???
PATHETIC!! Fully supported till now!!
Bit late Bob ,but might be enough to hang on to your job next time ,let’s hope not.
I’d be surprised if he’s ever given anyone any support. When I tried contacting him last year I got zero response!
Me too. I contacted him about an issue, I got a half hearted email from one of his staff. Absolutely no help at all. He simply isn’t interested in his constituents or the island, he’s only interested in feathering his own nest.
Nothing new about Prime Ministers being a trifle edgy, examine some of their private lives and past machinations BUT they are generally the sort of people who get things done. Boris is a prime example, I wouldn’t believe everything he says either, he is a politician after all.
There is no one else on the horizon, the resignations are only because they’ve found life too hard. Anyone in mind Bob ???
What he’s really saying is, I’m not going to support you because I don’t want to lose my £85k job
Please, Please, Please, make Bobby boys present term as our MP his last, it’s time for the island to hand the reigns to someone who actually cares about the island.
Should have had the backbone previously
Voted Tory all my life. Will never vote for them again. For me they’ve never really morally recovered from stabbing Thatcher in the back. In fairness though – I’d never vote for Seely, whichever party he brown nosed to.
Seeley = Irrelevant.
It has been a point of National interest for months had Mr Seely bothered to listen to the concerns of the nation rather than sitting on the fence and jumping down when he realises his position is also in jeopardy. How comes the British Public knew more about Boris’s character than those close to him. Who in their right mind would want someone in control who was a blatant liar, and thought Covid was an excuse for parties. I also object to the money scandal over the redecoration of his Government owned home, why does every PM think they have he right to redecorate when so many are living in damp squalid homes. Shame on all of them.
Well, that lying toe rag Johnson has now resigned so we won’t have to suffer him for much longer. Best news in years.
And within hours of this statement Bojo stands down as P.M., not linked by any chance Bob? Not browning that nose up to ram it home elsewhere?
Mozart said……
‘How sad it is that these great gentlemen should believe what anyone tells them and do not choose to judge for themselves! But it is always so.’
There’s a bandwagon going round Westminster and the sheep are climbing aboard.
