Police are awaiting the arrival of Bomb Disposal experts following the discovery of a piece of unexploded ordnance in the garden of a property in East Cowes.
Officers were called to an address on Vectis Road in the town at 12:57 following reports of a potential explosive being discovered.
The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Portsmouth have been alerted to the find and are expected to arrive on the Island later on today (Friday).
A cordon is in place around the object but the road remains open as normal.
UPDATE @ 21:00 – Bomb Disposal experts arrived at Vectis Road at around 19:00 this evening and after spending just a short time on scene, quickly stood down.
It’s thought that the device was declared safe.
The incident has now been brought to a close.
