The body of a woman in her 20s was found in the woods at Parkhurst Forest in Newport yesterday evening (Thursday), Police have confirmed.
Hampshire Constabulary was alerted to a concern for welfare in the area of Forest Close at 18:19, sparking a search to be launched.
The assistance of WightSAR – the Island’s search and rescue team – was requested at around 19:00 and volunteers quickly descended on the area.
However, the search was stood down by 19:45 when, sadly, the body of a woman was found in woodland off nearby Standen Avenue.
She was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
