UPDATED: A body has been discovered in woodland in a remote part of Central Wight this lunchtime (Thursday).
Police, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard are currently on scene in a field off the main Carisbrooke to Shorwell road at Bowcombe.
According to Island Echo readers, emergency services arrived on scene sometime around 11:00.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team appear to be assisting Police with the ongoing incident.
The road remains open in both directions.
UPDATE @ 12:23 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the discovery near Idlecombe Farm is that of a woman’s body.
The individual was found by a member of the public shortly before 09:30 this morning.
Coastguard officers have now moved the body to an awaiting ambulance.
Emergency services are standing sown from the incident.
UPDATE @ 13:50 – The death of the woman, who is said to be in her 80s, is not being treated as suspicious.
