The death of a man whose body was discovered on the banks of the River Medina last week (Friday 20th October) is being treated as unexplained Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police, Fire and Paramedic crews were called to Newport Quay shortly after 10:30 following the discovery of the body of a man in his 20s on the banks of the Medina.
A small section of the riverbank behind the Beefeater pub was sectioned off whilst those at the scene worked to recover the body.
HM Coastguard teams from Ventnor and Bembridge were called to the scene, by which point the body had been removed.
Despite the death being treated as unexplained Police have confirmed it isn’t being treated as suspicious.
A file is being prepared for the coroner.

This is so sad, such a young person to loose his life and how tragic for everyone involved in recovering the body.
My thoughts go out to friends and family and those whom helped with the recovery .
May he rest in peace
It’s incredibly sad, we take our lives for granted, yet we never know what’s around the corner…..We enter life alone, and leave it alone….
Rip cuz, finally at peace with yr mum. No words :’(
Was a Waste of air anyway
As are you
Used to work with this guy in an old job, he was a decent lad. Then he lost his mum a few years ago that’s probably what caused the downward spiral and he never got the help he desperately needed.
