More than 60 cyclists raced along Military Road on Sunday (17th May) in the annual Isle of Wight Classic cycle race.
Strong cross-tail winds created a rapid start, with Bobby Buenfeld and Will Baldie attacking shortly after the Sprint point to break away from the field.
By the end of the first lap, the race had split into several groups as the leading pair opened up an advantage of more than a minute.
As the race progressed, riders began to tail off, but Buenfeld and Baldie continued battling for both Sprint and King of the Mountains points on each lap.
On the final climb, Buenfeld made his move to gap Baldie before powering on to take the win.

Baldie finished 2nd, while Matthew O’Donnell narrowly beat Isle of Wight junior Harrison Hendy in the sprint for 3rd place.
Buenfeld’s dominant ride also secured him the Sprint, KOM and South League yellow jerseys.

Other results on the day included:
- 1st Woman – Charis Jones
- Best Junior – Will Baldie
- Best 3rd Cat – Matthew O’Donnell
- Best 4th Cat – Joe Dempsey
- Best Vet – Neil Parker
- Best Isle of Wight Rider – Harrison Hendy
Thanks were also extended to volunteers and supporters who helped make the event possible.

There are no cycle lanes along the Military Road
so why let the lycra brigade cause congestion to
motorists who pay to be on the road.
Bad news fella, sorry to burst your rant bubble but, cyclists pay exactly the same rate of road tax and vehicle duty as everyone else who uses the road. It’s calculated on a sliding scale of sorts. The more emissions your vehicle produces, the more duty you pay. So where a bicycle produces none then the duty payable is none. Therefore if someone was to complain about how much tax/duty they are paying then there is a solution. Drive a smaller car or a less polluting type of vehicle. Go hybrid, electric or even better get on a bicycle. However, there is a downside to the bike option. You’ll probably be out of the house for longer giving you less time for pathetic, baseless ranting about non-problems which you could address or even alleviate if you were to look at what which tax band you’ve opted for.
Enough is enough, as per usual you are such a prick! Most, if not all of the cyclists will have cars and be paying all the legal charges to operate those vehicles. However by being on a bike there car will be off the road, not impacting any road or road user. Any event on the island supports lots of local business & brings people to the island. Try to stop moaning continually about everything, wouldn’t want you going to your grave too early.
The only numpty is yourself, maybe you were born a numpty
or it came with age
Bless you
