Island households will be able to save hundreds of pounds on their energy bills through a £1billion insulation scheme launched by the Government earlier this week.
The Great British Insulation Scheme could save families an average of £400 a year on their energy bills with more than 300,000 homes set to benefit.
The Government says the scheme will help those most in need heat their home for less, through new energy efficiency upgrades.
Families in council tax bands A-D with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below will be offered vital upgrades – such as roof, loft or cavity wall insulation – which could cut their annual energy bill by an average of between £300 to £400.
Customers will be able to use a new online checker for the Great British Insulation Scheme, launched today, to find out if they are eligible.
Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho said:
“We are determined to help families keep their homes warm through the winter months and save on their energy costs.
“Our Great British Insulation Scheme will help hundreds of thousands of people, including some of the most vulnerable in society, get the upgrades their homes need, while cutting their energy bills.”
Island MP Bob Seely said:
“I welcome this scheme that will help support Islanders through the colder winter months.
“This is another good example of the government taking action to help those on lower incomes with the cost of living.
“I encourage Islanders to check their eligibility for the scheme online.”
This support will run alongside the existing Energy Company Obligation scheme, which offers free home energy efficiency improvements, such as insulation, heat pumps and solar panels to families on low incomes.
A separate checker has also been launched for the Home Upgrade Grant, which could help as many as 25,000 off-the-gas-grid homes that have an EPC rating of D to G. People can find out if they qualify for energy efficiency support – ranging from insulation and draft proofing to new windows and doors, as well as heat pumps and solar panels.
Customers using the online tools will then be referred to either their energy supplier, for support from the ECO programme and Great British Insulation Scheme, or their local council for the Home Upgrade Grant, to take the next step in making their home more energy efficient.

Woke Tories joining the radical leftist Insulate Britain. They closed our roads! You should take insulation out of there homes for the principal. This is negotiating with the ******

Many thanks, have applied , fingers crossed
Bob is still alive then, long silence and then, well he announces nothing really. Notice how he always “welcomes” something but never really does anything himself to help the island population, typical tory.
How about fitting free Heat Pumps for everyone
Like this scheme is not available for ‘everyone’ – as always it’s only for those on benefits..(those fortunate enough to qualify).
It’s ‘Benefit Britain’ – the now ingrained system that’s become permanently established… leaving the rest of us literally out in the cold .
Wouldn’t it be nice if Bob made sure our council taxes were not
Increased again next year.
In the current economic climate I think council tax should be
abolished, the charge should be incorporated with a persons
annual income.
Much fairer for everyone.
Put Seeley in your house and you won’t need to put the heating on ever again with the amount of hot air he comes out with.
I have already advised Bob Seely of the disadvantage of being an islander and that the HUG cannot be delivered here as the company contracted to deliver the service cannot deliver heat pump installations in the Isle of Wight. So once again IOW citizens are being penalised. Pity Bob Seely just pays lip service without doing anything useful again
British Gas not honouring this !! How is that helping if not all suppliers are signed up to it …. !!!
Why try to create jobs for islanders tory twat
How about the government say that the majority of us do not have to pay any council tax next year , and the money goes straight to the gas and electric companies
Got it, still can’t afford the heating bill, thanks Bob
Free solar panels for all should be on offer. They keep on preaching about fossil fuels. Now that would be worthwhile. People keep moaning about Bob Silly but they keep voting him in!
