Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat launched to assist a 17ft open angling boat reported to be taking on water just north of Bembridge this morning (Friday).
The D-Class ‘Norman Harvey’ was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at 09:15 to assist the Portsmouth-based casualty vessel and its 2 passengers after they reported to be in difficulty.
By the time the inshore lifeboat had launched the boat had been sensibly beached around 500m west of the lifeboat station at Lane End.
Having checked the 2 crew were alright, the Norman Harvey returned to Lane End, picked up a pump and returned back to the angling boat. Once the water had been pumped out, the lifeboat escorted the fishing boat to Bembridge Harbour and handed her over to the harbour staff and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.
Thankfully, conditions were benign – North East Force 1-2.
