Bembridge RNLI launched to assist a 41ft yacht with 3 people on board after the vessel ran aground near St Helen’s Fort yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The crew of the All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ had just splashed into the Solent during a public launch when the call for assistance came in.
The casualty vessel had become stranded on the rising tide near St Helen’s Fort.
Bembridge Lifeboat launched its daughter Y-Boat to take an anchor out to the yacht in order to prevent it from drifting while crews waited for enough water to refloat the vessel.
Within around 30 minutes, the yacht had successfully refloated and was able to continue its journey under its own power.
The ALB returned to Bembridge station at 20:05.
No mean feat to get “stranded on a rising tide”.
