Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat responded to a Mayday call from a yacht taking on water on the Solent this morning (Friday).
At just before 10:00, the crew were mustered to immediately launch the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ following a distress call from a 34ft Beneteau yacht – with 2 crew on board – reporting it was taking on water after striking an object.
Making best speed to the scene off the coast of Portsmouth, the volunteer crew members of Bembridge Lifeboat were soon on scene.
Bembridge Lifeboat escorted the yacht into Portsmouth Harbour, where Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team were standing by to rendezvous with the casualty.
It has been confirmed that the yacht hit a submarine barrier linking Horse Sand Fort to Southsea, causing damage to the hull. The vessel has since been lifted out of the water at Endeavour Quay, Gosport.
