Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has issued vital safety advice to ensure Islanders have a safe and enjoyable Bonfire Night this year.
It is recommended you attend an organised display but if you are having fireworks at home make sure you follow the Firework Code.
Group Manager for Community Safety at HIWFRS, John Amos, said:
“We know many people look forward to Bonfire Night and hope everyone who wants to celebrate gets the chance to do so safely.
“It’s always safer to attend a well-organised community event than let off fireworks at home, but if you are marking the occasion at home, please remember that fireworks are explosives.
“Don’t take risks, follow the Firework Code and always read the manufacturer’s instructions.
“Pop-up shops that only sell fireworks for a short period of time might be cheaper but may not meet British safety standards, so please don’t be tempted to cut corners to save money.
“Talk to your children about where they are and what they are doing. If you do see anyone behaving irresponsibly with fireworks, please report it to the police on 101.”
