A baby dolphin was found washed ashore on the beach at Lake this morning (Friday).
HM Coastguard was alerted to the discovery near Littlestairs – between Sandown and Shanklin – at around 10:30.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge were mobilised to the scene to take measurements and photos of the juvenile male, before arranging recovery with the local authority.
The information gathered will be sent to the Natural History Museum.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
