The first set of walks have been announced for the much-anticipated Autumn Isle of Wight Walking Festival, taking place from 4th to 12th October.
With 60 walks already available to book, organisers say there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Often ranked as one of the best walking destinations in the UK and one of only 7 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in the country, the festival celebrates everything the Isle of Wight has to offer in October.
Themed walks include routes focused on the natural world, spooky tales, and local history ranging from the Romans to World War II. There are also plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy the Island’s scenic beauty.
Organised by Visit Isle of Wight and supported by Wight BID, the festival features the Vectis Via Vado MMXXV, the longest walk on offer at nearly 27 miles. The route runs from the Royal Isle of Wight County Showground to Brading Roman Villa and back. Organisers confirm it can be broken down into shorter, accessible sections suitable for all, including wheelchair users. Participants are encouraged to don Roman fancy dress and even adopt names from 2,000 years ago.
Other highlights include an early morning circular walk following the Caul Bourne stream from Calbourne Mill through Newbridge, offering far-reaching views of the west of the Isle of Wight.
Cross-Solent ferry operators and local businesses are offering discounts on travel and accommodation, with full details available on the festival website.
Amy Summers, Head of Marketing and Sustainability at Visit Isle of Wight, said:
“The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is a firm favourite in the visitor’s calendar and we urge accommodation providers to let potential guests know that the Autumn Isle of Wight Walking Festival begins on 4th October and to book now!”
Booking is essential via the official website. Many walks are free, with some leaders requesting donations to charity and others charging a fee.
