For the second year running, Ash Lane in Gunville has been crowned the winner of this year’s Light up the Wight Christmas lights competition!
Throughout December, Islanders travelled around the Isle of Wight in their cars – or on the Southern Vectis tour bus – to see the amazing collection of Christmas lights displays, as featured on the Light up the Wight map.
More than 1,600 votes were then cast online to determine the Island’s favourite. The votes have now been tallied up – and added to the judge’s score – to reveal the Top 3 displays for 2025…
Securing £400 in prize money again this year is Gunville’s Ash Lane. Homeowner Lee Hayden went bigger and better in 2025, despite sustaining an injury before the build-up, extending his display even further! It was a firm favourite, securing 30% of the votes.
Goldcrest Close in Carisbrooke has made the podium once again, scooping 2nd place and £200 in prize money, courtesy of sponsors Southern Vectis. Matt Whitham once again dazzled visitors with an amazing and uniform display – a real Island favourite.

In 3rd place this year is Bannock Road, Whitwell. Shane Thornton’s display last featured on the podium in 2023 and returns to 3rd place again for 2025 – clearly worthy of the drive to the South Wight.

The annual spectacle was given some extra sparkle for 2025 as the BBC’s One Show paid a visit, broadcasting a segment on the closely-fought competition to the nation. Presenter Angelica Bell was joined by the Island Echo team as she travelled to 3 of the 20 displays featured on the map.
