A suspected arson investigation is being conducted following a blaze in the grounds of a Newport vehicle garage yesterday (Monday).
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Service mobilised 3 appliances to Prices Garage in Pan Lane at 19:24 yesterday evening after receiving multiple reports of a large plume of smoke billowing into the air.
Firefighters from Newport, Cowes, and East Cowes used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets, alongside a main jet and a specialist Ultra High Pressure Lance (formerly known as COBRA) to combat the flames within a storage container full of old car parts in a rear compound of the site.
Thanks to the quick work of the crews, the fire was contained within the unit and no damage was caused to the motor garage buildings or nearby properties.
Island Echo has been told that members of the public near to the scene had seen youths in the area of the container before the fire began, and following an initial investigation into the likely cause of the blaze, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that an investigation into suspected arson has been launched.

Very pleased that Barry and Matt’s business has not been affected too much by this fire and that no-one was hurt; hope that no valuable classic car parts were destroyed in the container, though.
What is it with all the fires recently,I am starting to think my pyromaniac neighbour is venturing further afield
Would hate to see the business go up in flames and houses built on the site. As if!
