Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were deployed to 2 reports of houses being burgled within the Cowes area at some point overnight.
Police were called at 07:39 this morning, with the burglaries reported to have happened overnight.
During one of the incidents, the homeowner confronted a man in her home, prompting the man to leave.
Following fast track enquires at the scene, and utilising proactive stop & search powers, officers detained a 25-year-old man from Sway under S.1 PACE. This power allows police officers to detain & search persons whom they believe to be in possession of specified items.
Following the search, items suspected to be relating to the burglary were seized.
The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a knife in a public place. He currently remains in custody at this time.

Yep good old isle of Wight it was nice place 25 year ago now just a drugs haven dump
A fixed link would fix this… no more of these bloody idiots robbing houses and bringing real people and police over to fix the issues!
a fixed link would make it worse you fool
mainland based criminals would drive over, rob houses, then drive back over to the mainland all within the space of 30 minutes – the ferry prevents nearly all of this type of plan, as it slows the criminals up considerably
You don’t know what you are talking about. These island criminals are running riot, the mainland is much safer at this point. We need real mainland men and women to drive over and sort the riff raff out.
Totally disagree, mainland crims come over every day on ferries as no checks, but with a bridge could have anpr and security checks. IOW has many of its own scum who rob here and mainland already.
There will never ever be a fixed link. Far too great a cost for very little benefit.
I’m surprised the police got involved, they usually just give a crime number…..Even shop lifting is out of bounds for any police action, perhaps things may change….
a fixed link would make it worse. What a daft comment.
Have you a brain it would make it worse,we do not want or need a fixed link there be more crime if we had one,and it a island keep it as one
So not another delinquent geriatric then and not an Islander. I wonder what the trolls will make of that?
They would have to google Sway which might be to much for them before they have their medication
“from Sway under S.1 PACE”
What does that mean?
It means that the offender is from Sway near Southampton. PACE is an acronym for the “Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984”. Here’s a quote from the Act:
“Under Section 1 of PACE, a police constable may stop, detain, and search any person or vehicle in a public place, as long as the officer has ‘reasonable grounds’ for suspecting that they will find stolen or prohibited articles — such as drugs, a weapon, stolen property, prohibited fireworks, or something that could be used to commit a crime”.
For a complete explanation of the Act, go to ‘Legislation.gov.uk’.
im sensing “bailed without charge”knife was for work, items were coincidental
Well done!! Got him!! Please, prosecution services, give him a decent sentence…
