ARMED POLICE DESCEND ON FRESHWATER HOME

UPDATED: Armed police have descended on a house on Edinburgh Road in Freshwater this morning (Monday), resulting in the area being cordoned off.

Several police vehicles made speed to the West Wight at around 09:00 this morning, arriving in force at the quiet residential street off Copse Lane shortly before 09:30.

Island Echo understands officers rendezvoused nearby before moving in on the target address and placing the street on lockdown.

The area remains cordoned off and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene.

Local residents say they have been told to keep inside their properties.

UPDATE @ 11:20 – 1 male has been tasered and detained by Police, bringing about an end to the situation.

The individual has been assessed by paramedics for barb injuries to his back and is now being taken into custody at Newport Police Station. He does not require hospital treatment.

Edinburgh Road has re-opened to pedestrians and motorists.

UPDATE @ 12:50 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed they were called to a domestic incident involving a firearm at 08:46 this morning.

A 50-year-old man has been tasered and arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

He remains in custody this afternoon.

UPDATE TUESDAY – The 50-year-old man has been released without charge and will face no further action, according to Hampshire Constabulary.
