For the 2nd time today (Friday), the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the Island.
Flying doctors crossed the Solent, this time heading for Binstead, having left the base at Thruxton at around 21:45.
Circling the large housing estate in Binstead for a few minutes the helicopter pilot found safe landing at Binstead Park opposite the post office on Binstead Hill.
On-board paramedics have been joined on the ground by blue light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Earlier today – as previously reported by Island Echo – the helicopter was called to Wootton were someone suddenly became unwell.
On that occasion the casualty was transferred to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth after receiving treatment from specialists – including the Operational Commander from IOWAS.
It is unclear as to where exactly paramedics have headed in the Binstead area on this, there 2nd trip to the Island today.
A police car, ambulance and unmarked police car are in a house opposite the fleming.
The amount of money we’ve spent over the years flying doctors over here could of went towards improving our hospital here so no flying is necessary? Our small hospital is relatively sound during winter months but during the summer season the population is almost tripled with double the amount of nurses and doctors needed that just isnt there. But hey sunk cost fallacies is what we do best!

This life saving service is not funded by our government who starve the NHS of funds it is funded by people of the island and mainland so don’t knock it !!!!

You are totally clueless what the air ambulance does!! They are on the mainland aswell you know!! Watch the TV programmes and see what they do.

I am am I? I donate to the air ambulance, I have watched the shows and of course there on the mainland isnt that axiomatic enough for you ton? And at which point did I knock the service? Please read what I wrote, we (donators) have donated for years and I just had a thought that maybe it turned into a sunk cost fallacy because whilst our money has gone to a good cause wouldnt the strain be taken away from these men and women if we had better equipment here since as I said we are an ever growing population but more importantly busy during season. If we stood together we might actually get something done as opposed to judging people online calling me clueless when you dont know me…
There is a procedure in place for flying to pick up a patient on the Island Sanguinius. They don’t just pop along for the hell of it. The helicopter comes in for high priority cases such as cardiac cases who need to get to cath lab on mainland asap and other critically unstable patients, as well as for trauma of many kinds who require to go to a specialised trauma unit and undergoe more specialised surgery that can be carried out at St Mary’s. As David has said, helimed teams are funded from charity fund raising events, kind donators and will legacies. They get diddly from the government or from our taxes. We would be royally up the creek without a paddle without them and the Islands mortality rates would be up for sure.
I’m not afraid of admitting my intellectual limitations so no need for sarcasm of course there not popping over for a ride c’mon…. I’m just saying that the strain could be made easier for them if we had better equipment here. My wording was slightly wrong, maybe that’s me wanting things to be utopian, people will still need it but is there a way for that strain to be lifted slightly? People here are always complaining that we are dry in funds but never offer anything of consequence to the point at hand.. I feel i shouldnt of said anything because they way we attack each other there wont be a society left, at least im trying to offer something other than sarcasm.

Well now I see my own mistake… yes my wording was wrong, when I said about we could have built better equipment neglects the fact that the funding is separate however that is not how I wish my point to be seen. Please read my reply to Tony… why do people have to be so obtuse with their manner, I much preferred sapphires response, far more mature and shows that theres some intellect inside… we all want the same thing although grammar isnt there nor was the connection of sentences but I certainly cannot see that I was being obnoxious or arrogant towards the ambulance service, just merely pointing out something that seems logical no?
