The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed at Sandown Airport this afternoon (Thursday) to airlift a seriously ill patient to the mainland.
The helicopter and its specialist flying doctors have rendezvoused with a paramedic crew from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, who are accompanied by a St John Ambulance crew and an operational commander.
Assistance was requested shortly before 13:00, with the air ambulance landing at Sandown Airport at 13:20.
UPDATE – The decision has been taken to convey the patient to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by the HEMS team.
The air ambulance has since relocated to the helipad at Newport to pick up the crew.
