A yellow weather warning for heavy and thundery downpours – potentially bringing as much as 40mm of rain to some areas – has been issued for the Isle of Wight, just days after glorious 37c sunshine.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that showers will develop to the South of the Island early on Friday morning and slowly move their way northwards to affect the South Coast of the UK and potentially the Isle of Wight shortly after dawn.
The timing is a little uncertain and due to the extremely localised nature of showers, not everywhere will see them, however, places that are affected will see some torrential downpours, perhaps with 20-30mm of rain falling in a fairly short space of time.
Islanders are warned that the is a risk of multiple showers affecting the same locations repeatedly, and these spots could see rainfall totals in excess 40mm locally.
Occasional lightning is also expected in and around the heaviest showers along with some gusty winds of 40-50mph.
The warning is in force from 04:00 until 23:00 tomorrow (Friday).
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“It must be noted that the Island is a very small target and this means that the heaviest showers could easily miss the Island to the west or east, but at this stage it is impossible to say the exact location, although there will certainly be some torrential downpours nearby if not directly overhead”.

Locals and visitors alike should be aware of the potential for surface water and flash flooding. Silt, sand, stones and debris is likely to affect more rural roads and walkways due to field run-off and polluted storm water may also affect the Island’s beaches.
Tree debris such as leaves and twigs will affect the Island’s roads along with a low (20%) risk of larger branches falling or even the odd downed tree, but again only affecting the areas where the heaviest showers are likely.

@Dr Jollop, all they have is hate. They see a few kids misbehaving / mucking about and think they are all the same. The same kind of people who love to judge someone simply because of the tone of skin they are in.
As for arson and the kids, most fires are started by adults. Only a few by kids being daft.
Then why say anything at all?
Oh come on, you know it’s true. The kids over here copy what they see happening elsewhere. Kids have already been seen running away from a fire by the Fire Brigade who were called to put the fire out earlier in the week.
Not all kids are bad, just the ones that are do terrible things, all for a laugh!

The question asked, ought to be, why do children who have more than any generation before them, who are treated kindly by teachers, most parent and the law, have to behave so horribly?

I don’t hate children either but I don’t like the vile ones, which, as you say are still the minority, but a growing number all the same.
Whilst previous generations did mischief, now unless something is destroyed, hurt and ruined, some seem to not be content to live on a holiday isle, with beaches, open country and the choice of fast food, towns and plenty of entertainment.
Being financially better off and the certainty of a free home and not working or only a few hours has made having unwanted children for a better life the norm now, hence the increase in vile ones.

That’s ok I’m sure island roads have been round checking all drains are clear do reduce the chances of flooding.
Don’t worry about the drains the potholes will deal with any water on our roads
If Island Roads done that, it would take 7 guys to watch and 1 guy to try and undo a drain cover.

Climate change is real, just because you do not understand it does not mean the science is wrong.

get over it, whatever the weather does is way beyond the control of humans..
And Fred, just because YOU choose to believe and trust one side of the evidence from science, all paid and backed by world Governments who may have a vested interest in reducing cars for the masses and raising fuel price so they can supply less, yet still gain the same income, doesn’t mean that your ‘take’ on it is right either.
IF you only listened to the defence or only the prosecution in a court case then your assumption of guilt would be at serious risk too.
Hope we get some heavy rain. Gardens need a drink so badly!!!!! And it will take away the tinder dry conditions. We don’t want any wildfires like what happened to those poor people and their properties in Dagenham.
