Red Funnel have suspended their hi-speed Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton this afternoon (Friday), with Hovertravel following suit on their Ryde to Southsea service.
Strong winds around the Isle of Wight, mixed in with the tidal conditions, mean it is unsafe for the 2 foot passenger services to continue operations.
It is unknown at this stage when the Red Jets will re-enter service. Hovertravel say an update will be provided at 15:00.
No other cross-Solent operators are affected at this time.
Red Funnel apologises for the inconvenience caused.
UPDATE @ 15:31 – Both services remain suspended this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 15:50 – Hovertravel say that services will resume at 16:15 from Ryde and 16:30 from Southsea.
Red Funnel are due to issue an update at 16:30. In the meantime, they have advised that the vehicle ferry service is running with delays of 15 minutes.
UPDATE @ 16:32 – Red Jet will resume at 16:45 from Southampton and 17:15 from West Cowes.

Nice to see Red Funnel apologises didn’t Hovertravel give a toss LOL
neither company should have to apologise – the weather is beyond their control.
Absolutely you can’t help the weather!
If they sailed in high winds and had a problem everyone would moan about that.
There doing the right thing, and getting hell for it.
I suggest Pete moves back to the mainland where he belongs!!!!
Keep the island an island for the islanders.
