Taste of the Wight, the Island’s local guide to food and drink, is asking for all cafes, restaurants and pubs to get in touch during this difficult time.
It has published a new online database of the Island’s cafes, pubs and restaurants to show who is staying open and how services may changing during this unsettled time.
The government’s advice regarding social-distancing and self-isolation has forced many businesses to provide new offers; such as local pubs providing home food delivery services.
The Taste of the Wight team is making every effort to be a hub of information for local businesses and residents via tasteofthewight.co.uk. Working through social media, the team are reaching out to pubs, restaurants and the general public to share their information and build a central point for everyone to have access to.
Solent managing director, Tim Addision said:
‘We’ve immediately had a great response. Our clients provide superb services, but are now having to look at innovative ways to serve their customers. We want to enable more businesses to reach more potential customers over the coming weeks. This would include vulnerable people that need to stay in their homes and might simply not realise that their local shop or pub will make a delivery.”
The Taste of the Wight local database is now live online and aims to provide clear and up-to-date information over the coming weeks.
Tim adds:
“If we can help by providing a one-stop shop for customers to see who’s open and what they are offering, that in turn may also help to keep businesses afloat.
“Tourism has always been the lifeblood of the Island’s economy, but with visitor numbers likely to decline in the short term it’s a time for the Island to pull together. Local people need to be supporting local business and we aim to do what we can to help.”
www.tasteofthewight.co.uk is being updated hourly and the Taste team welcomes all food and drink-related businesses to contact them with their information. Either message the team via social media (via Facebook or Instagram) or email Marie [email protected] or Jo [email protected].

Great idea – it’s good to see some lateral thinking on this situation – over the coming months ‘meal delivery’ may (have to) become the new normal for a while
