A new online platform has been launched to help residents, visitors and history enthusiasts explore more than 1,300 heritage locations across the Isle of Wight.
IOWMap.co.uk is a bespoke digital mapping platform designed to showcase the Island’s cultural, historic and heritage sites. From iconic landmarks and well-known attractions to lesser-known corners and hidden gems, the map offers a visual way to discover what makes the Isle of Wight unique.
The site is free to use and allows users not only to explore locations but also to contribute their own knowledge, helping to build a growing community-led record of the Island’s past and present.
Whether planning a visit, researching local history or simply exploring places passed every day, IOWMap.co.uk aims to bring the Island’s stories together in one interactive space.

Key features include an easy-to-use interactive map, heritage and history pins with descriptions, community submissions and full compatibility across desktop and mobile devices.
Ian Flegg explained:
“We created IOWMap.co.uk to celebrate the spectacular heritage of the Isle of Wight and make it accessible to everyone, everywhere. From well-known attractions to lesser-known corners of the Island, this map serves as both a practical tool and a community hub for exploration.”
The Isle of Wight is widely known for its landscapes, villages and tourism, but also holds a rich and diverse historical record. IOWMap.co.uk provides a centralised platform where that heritage can be explored, shared and expanded by the community.
Users can explore the map and begin contributing by visiting www.iowmap.co.uk. A Facebook community group is also available at facebook.com/groups/1457203628705671.
Although the platform is free for public use, commercial organisations can opt to pay a small fee to be listed. All proceeds from commercial listings are donated to the local charity IoW Defibrillators, which supports the installation and maintenance of life-saving defibrillators across the Island.
By appearing on the map, businesses gain visibility while directly supporting a cause that benefits the wider community. This model ensures the platform remains free to access, ethically funded and focused on positive local impact.
