8-year-old Sophie Hall from Shanklin recently climbed Scafell Pike in the Lake District to raise £501 in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.
When Sophie raised money for a local Children’s Hospital 2 years ago, dad Jason discussed with Sophie the situations those patients and their parents find themselves in and asked how she would feel. Sophie’s biggest worry was the fear of being alone and amazingly, she recognised that circumstances surrounding a child’s illness affects a family as a whole.
Living on an Island highlights the dependency families have on links to travel and accommodation when travelling to get the right care for their child. Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides this accommodation for families with seriously ill children in hospital, which is why Sophie decided to raise money for the charity – to keep families close to their child’s bedside in hospital.
Of her support for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, Sophie said:
“I don’t want any children to be on their own without their family if they are poorly.”
Sophie climbed the 900-metre Scafell Pike with her dad and friends.
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK has 12 Houses across the UK situated in or near hospital grounds to enable seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment and to maintain a degree of normal family life. Ronald McDonald House Southampton is a 52 bedroom House situated within minutes walk of Southampton Children’s hospital.
