A Newport man whose antics forced Police to draw a taser and ‘red dot’ him has been fined £233 by the courts.
Daniel Cook, 35, of Cameron Close in Newport, pleaded guilty to using threatening/abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment alarm or distress when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (25th July 2023).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that Police on High-Visibility Patrol noticed a pair of males on Coppins Bridge in Newport, one of whom had a brick in his hand and was throwing it to the floor.
Officers approached the males and asked Cook, who had the brick, to put it down. Initially Cook refused before officers used a taser and red dot challenged him. He then swiftly dropped the brick.
Magistrates handed Cook – a self employed painter and decorator – a £233 fine. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £93 victim surcharge fee.

Wise choice he dropped the brick or he could have needed clean pants if he had been tasered! LOL
£233 plus £85 plus £93 for holding a brick. Puts fines for certain other offences into perspective, doesn’t it?
Did he force them to draw the taser with a pen or a pencil?
