Isle of Wight man Aaron Caley has been jailed for 3 years after he stabbed another man in the back in Shanklin Town Centre last summer.
Caley, 36, stabbed the victim in an unprovoked and premeditated attack on 21st June last year.
At that time, Caley and the victim had only recently become acquainted with one another. Caley had asked the victim on two occasions between 14th and 18th June if he could acquire drugs for him, which the victim refused to do on both occasions.
Angered by this, Caley confronted the victim on Shanklin High Street on 21st June before attempting to slash and stab him with a kitchen knife.
The victim ran but was subsequently stabbed in the back and slashed on the wrist.
Police were called and Caley was quickly identified and arrested, before being charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a knife in a public place.
Caley, of Pellhurst Road in Ryde, admitted the knife possession charge, but denied the assault and the case went to trial at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday 13th January 2025.
On the third day of trial, he was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and appeared at the same court today (Friday) for sentencing where he was jailed for a total of 3 years.
DC Dani Morris, who investigated the case, said:
“We hear all too often the devastating impact that carrying and using knives can have, and as a police force we take a zero tolerance approach to knife crime.
“This was an unprovoked, premeditated attack which took place in broad daylight in a built up area, highlighting just how dangerous and careless Caley’s actions were. Fortunately for the victim, this did not result in life-threatening injuries. The outcome could have, however, been far more severe and even fatal, and Caley will now spend a length of time in prison as a result of his shocking actions that day”
Not a long enough sentence, will only
serve 18 months
Crazy
Until all druggies are locked up, the country will
never be a safe place.
Long enough to get him clean again. Trouble is, when they let him out the help to get him on his feet will not be there. So rinse and repeat. No-one wakes up one day and say ‘I know what would be a good life choice, I’ll get myself hooked on drugs/alcohol’. It starts with a need to escape the (lack of) life they already have, and the quick fix of pain relief swiftly sets in. Those of us who don’t can proudly call ourselves privileged.
Look at the state of it.
Should have been 10 years for carrying a knife and 20 years for using it. These type low life are getting namby pamby sentences, that is why there are so many of them walking about being a threat to innocent people.
