A drink driver from Newport who was seen driving at speed on the dual carriageway has been handed a 3-year driving ban.
Billy Beeney, 37, from Quarry View in Newport, admitted a single charge of drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (Friday 28th November).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that on the 4th November at around 02:00, Beeney was seen in his Ford Fiesta driving at speed on Medina Way.
Officers followed the vehicle to Beeney’s home address on the Camp Hill estate, before approaching him when he stopped his vehicle. A roadside breath test was conducted in which a positive reading of 60 was returned.
The court heard how Beeney was in court for a similar matter back in 2017.
Defending Beeney, Adrian Dodd said that his client was currently unemployed but that he was due back to work after Christmas.
Magistrates handed the 37-year-old a 36-month driving ban and fined him £650. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge fee of £260 and £85 costs.
