A 3-week highway safety scheme is to get underway at Ashey Road in Ryde on Monday, resulting in the closure of the road that leads to The Downs.
Island Roads is to install 150 metres of vehicle restraint barrier on a stretch of highway between Brading Downs Road and East Ashey Lane. The work, starting on Monday (8th February), will involve the replacement of an 85-metre stretch of existing barrier which needs to be upgraded to meet current national design standards.
Traffic restrictions will be necessary to protect the workforce as the road width at this location is not sufficient to accommodate works traffic and passing vehicles. Consequently, from Monday the road will be closed between 18:30 and 07:00 for 7 days. For the remaining two weeks of the scheme, the road will be closed outside of rush hour between 09:30 and 15:30 to allow work to continue. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Information boards giving latest scheme details will be placed on site.
Ian Middleton, Island Roads Road Safety Engineer, said:
“A scheme of this size will obviously cause some disruption and we would like to thank road users in advance for their patience. We have however taken steps to reduce inconvenience and I am sure residents will appreciate the need for the highway network to meet the required safety standards.”
