Hundreds of primary school pupils descended on Vectis Rugby Club this week for a huge day of tag rugby action celebrating teamwork, sportsmanship and grassroots sport.
Vectis Rugby Club was buzzing with energy as 270 children from schools across the Isle of Wight came together for a massive Tag Rugby Festival organised by the Jason Robinson Foundation in partnership with Isle of Wight Community Sports.
Pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the action-packed day, which saw young players showcase their rugby skills, determination and teamwork in a fun and inclusive environment.
The festival featured a series of fast-paced matches throughout the day, with schools competing in good spirits while being cheered on by teachers, coaches and supporters from the sidelines.
Organisers hailed the event as a huge success, highlighting not only the sporting talent on display but also the positive attitude and sportsmanship shown by all involved.
The coaching team worked together throughout the day to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone taking part, with generous support for the event also provided by local sponsor Isle of Wight Tomatoes.
The Jason Robinson Foundation, founded by World Cup-winning dual-code rugby legend Jason Robinson OBE, operates under the mission that no person’s background or circumstances should define their future.
Known as ‘The Unstoppable Project’, the foundation uses sport as a vehicle for positive social change by giving children from all backgrounds access to high-quality coaching, mentoring and safe environments.
By breaking down barriers and creating opportunities, the foundation aims to help young people discover their potential, build confidence and develop important life skills such as teamwork, resilience and discipline.
Partnering closely for the event, Isle of Wight Community Sports Coaching brought its extensive local expertise to the pitch.
Dedicated to delivering honest, professional and affordable sports coaching across the Island, the team has become a key part of the local community through initiatives ranging from holiday sports camps to in-school coaching sessions designed to keep young people active and engaged in grassroots sport.
As hosts of the festival, Vectis Rugby Football Club continued to cement their reputation as one of the Island’s leading forces in youth rugby development.
The club has celebrated record growth across its youth squads during the past season, with increasing numbers of children taking up the sport and progressing through the ranks.
A spokesperson also thanked the schools, teachers, parents and volunteers who turned out to support the youngsters throughout the day and help make the festival such a resounding success.
