A man who subjected his partner to months of coercive, violent abuse – and strangled a neighbour who tried to help her – has been jailed for over 2 years following a sentencing hearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
40-year-old Prince Francis, now of South Street, Eastbourne, has been handed a total custodial sentence of 27 months after admitting 2 serious offences: intentional strangulation and controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship.
Francis first appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court in July, wearing a brightly coloured Hawaiian shirt, drawing comments in court for looking as though he was headed on holiday rather than answering to serious criminal charges.
Prosecutor Lauren McConnel outlined that Francis had repeatedly subjected his former partner – the mother of his 4 children – to violent and controlling behaviour over a sustained period between November 2023 and November 2024, whilst living in the West Wight.
The court heard that he arrived in the UK from India and began to isolate the woman from others, forbidding her from seeing people and reacting violently if she used the phone.
Francis expected her to complete all household duties and assaulted her on multiple occasions. He bit her, struck her, and kicked her in the vaginal area – despite her having recently received stitches following the birth of one of their children.
The pattern of abuse was so severe that the victim was left in fear of violence on more than one occasion.
The court also heard how Francis strangled a neighbour who had tried to intervene during one such incident.
The matter was committed to the Crown Court on 1st September, where Francis entered guilty pleas to both the strangulation and coercive control charges. A further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm was left to lie on file.
Appearing before the same court on Friday 10th October, he was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment for the controlling and coercive behaviour and a consecutive 9-month sentence for the intentional strangulation, bringing the total custodial term to 27 months.
A restraining order has also been imposed until October 2035.

Look at him smirking! Why are we so soft on these people in this country. It’s disgusting, his behaviour is vile and unacceptable yet we continue to allow people to live here like this.
Why are we the only country striving to accommodate asylum seekers when places like Australia are able to flatly refuse to allow any in? We have no jobs, or resources for the number of people who live here already. It’s not right.
No worries digital ID’s will solve the problem
Lol
Come on, now your talking out of your backside.
You’ve only just realised? Blimey
Australians have got a backbone and they rule their country and not illegal immigrants. Does any country in the world have a go at them for this, NO. We worry too much about what others think. We need leaders in this once great country to stand up and get them OUT.
What sort of animal kicks a lady who has recently given birth it really upset me, but he obviously couldn’t care less, hope the Karma comes back to him disgusting idiot.
