Officers have arrested a 23-year-old man following an early morning incident involving a knife in Sandown.
Several police units responded to a 999 call reporting a man – who was thought to have a knife on his person – acting suspiciously in Avenue Road at just after midnight (Friday).
Officers quickly deployed to the scene in Sandown and detained a 23-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in public, assault of an emergency worker, and a public order offence.
A knife was found after a short search in the nearby area.
The man was taken into custody at Newport Police Station and the knife seized. It’s understood that the man remains in custody.
Island Echo has approached Hampshire Constabulary for a statement.

Lock him up for a long time. All too lenient on these knive carrying idiots, should be 10 years mandatory.
Keep him locked up, we don’t want him on the streets!

Yep, I’ll give it 20/30 years.
He should be punished harshly, but what about all the nonces that keep walking free?
Midnight Friday? I’m writing this at 9pm Friday. So it has not happened yet. Back to the future?
Piece of scum. People like him are a menace and should not be allowed to walk the streets
